Sign up for Ethno Croatia 2015!

Ethno Croatia will take place in the beautiful little village of Grožnjan, a JMI World Meeting Centre between 8 – 17 July. (arrival date 7. July, departure date 18. July). After a week of picturesque Grožnjan and time filled with workshops, rehearsals, dance evenings and jams and one day trip to seaside, Ethno goes on tour from 15 July. There will be performances in Slavonski Brod (in the eastern part of Croatia), Zagreb (the capital of Croatia), Pazin (center of Istria) and Gornja Stubica – Dvorac Oršić (North part of Croatia in Oršić castle).

If you are a young musician over 18 playing folk/traditional music and you play an acoustic instrument or sing, apply now for a week of wonderful Istrian gourmet food, sunshine and music from all over the world!

In the past years Ethno Croatia hosted musicians from Belgium, Denmark, Croatia, Sweden, Spain, Norway, Estonia, Iran, Australia, Chile, Zimbabwe, Finland and others. All participants are asked to prepare one traditional song/tune from their country and teach it to the other participants. All the songs and tunes are taught by ear.

Ethno Croatia proudly presents this year’s artistic leader’s team, consisting of three extraordinary musicians who will help participants with teaching, learning and arranging the tunes. They are Maisie Greenwood (UK), Goran Farkaš (CRO) and Nenad Kovačić (CRO).

Maisie Greenwood is a fiddle player from the UK. A well-travelled musician and professional linguist, she has spent many years picking up tunes and languages from all over the world, playing in sessions, busking, going to Ethno camps and playing in a range of music projects including ceilidh bands, orchestras and even a rave circus band from time to time. She has previously been an Artistic Leader at Ethno Flanders, Ethno France and Ethno Denmark.

Goran Farkaš is a multi-instrumentalist and ethnomusicologist from Pazin, center of Istria. Leader of currently most popular and most active Croatian ethno band Veja that tours around Croatia and globe. Goran plays numerous Croatian traditional wind and string instruments such as sopele, mih, gajde, šurle, kaval, strančica, samica, lijerica and fiddle. He has been participant on artistic leader training course Ethnofonik in France and international music workshop Rila music exchange in Bulgaria. He is also active as a composer for theatre music.

Nenad Kovačić percussionist and a composer, specialist in Balkan and west african rhythmics, an Ethno Croatia veteran and member of few bands that play traditional music from region, such as Afion and Sevdah Takht Damira Imamovica. In last few years he has been on many Ethnos and also attended Ethnofonik in France. He works as a teacher, traveler and author of theater and film music.

Ethno Croatia is looking for 30 young musicians, so hurry up and register!
